This trend needs to die
When Angelina Jolie infamously threw out her leg at the 2012 Oscars and transformed herself into a meme, the thigh-high slit trend tragically died. We finally saw it for what it was: Not a sign of sexiness, but a kickstand to lean on when we don’t believe in what we’re wearing.
As I wrote a while back, I, too committed this fashion crime of showing too much skin at my senior prom. I was 18. I was young and foolish. Boobs and back weren’t enough. I had to throw out my leg, too. I look back at those photos and cringe.
And so it’s with great sadness I write about Kim Kardashian’s left leg. This year’s theme is Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. Of course most celebrities interpreted this literally and predictably brought the silver metallic sequins. Including Kardashian.
The silver sequins would’ve been enough, if not spectacular without the slit. But even the rehabilitated can fall off the wagon. And Kardashian just couldn’t resist throwing out the leg.
You know who this is doing a bigger disservice to? Balmain. Despite the great bustier construction, the slit and vertical sequins on the skirt make it look cheap. If the entire dress had been the same on the bottom as it is on the top, it would’ve been such an improvement.
